The digestive system is a system in the human and animal body whose job is to process food into substances that can be absorbed and used by the body. Scientists study various aspects of the digestive system such as the structure and function of related organs, digestive processes, and their effects on health. In health science, the human digestive system is often referred to as the gastrointestinal system.
Our bodies are a gift from God and an extraordinary blessing because they have complex functions that cannot be found in other living creatures. The organs involved must be created perfectly and as much as possible according to their function. Our digestive system is no less amazing because it is very complex and functional from an internal and external perspective.
For example our digestive system which involves organs gastrointestinal or digestive organs. The Latin name is digestorium/digestivus. So who is involved in the process of digestion of food in our body?
They are mouth, esophagus, liver, stomach, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, anus and finally the rectum. Which of these organs are you most familiar with and know their function? Stomach? Or Mouth? The organs above are common organs that are widely known. Even though inside that organ there are other parts. So what is that? Read the complete explanation until the end!
Before that, let’s briefly discuss the digestive process. The process of digestion of food is generally divided into two. Namely mechanical and chemical processes:
1. Understanding mechanical processes is the process of processing/changing food from large sizes to smaller sizes. The organs that carry out mechanical processes occur in the mouth. The place where food is first introduced into the body. In the mouth, this process is carried out by the teeth, tongue, stomach.
2. Definition of chemical (enzymatic) processes is the process of changing large molecules into smaller ones. If in the mechanical process the food is ground into smaller pieces, then the chemical process is carried out even more simply. It is no longer the size of the food that we usually see, but the constituent molecules in the food will be changed to become even smaller.
This process is of course assisted by digestive enzymes, which are abundantly distributed in the digestive organs. Before that, what are enzymes? Enzyme is a chemical substance produced by the body, its function is to speed up chemical reactions in the body. Just imagine what would happen to the body without enzymes? Certainly the food in our bodies is difficult to digest and excrete, which will ultimately make us susceptible to disease.
OK, let’s discuss the digestive organs one by one which carry out the task of digesting the food we eat 3 times a day every day. However, it would be better if you first watched a YouTube video about the journey or process of food being digested in the body. The goal is so that you can easily understand what I will explain. Enjoy watching!
Already? How? You can imagine it, so now it’s my turn to explain the theory:
