This year, the Community of Madrid will acquire 133,500 doses of vaccines against pneumococcus to protect the elderly against serious infections. The Government Council has authorized this week to allocate an investment of 6,054,048 euros to this purchase. This initiative will allow the immunization of people over 60 years of age, as recommended by the General Directorate of Public Health, which has also included it in the vaccination schedule for adults who have risk factors. The administration of the so-called twenty-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine will be carried out in health centers and at vaccination points authorized by the autonomous Administration. It is an action that the regional government has been developing since 2005.
