Texas Governor Greg Abbott Signs Law Prohibiting COVID-19 Vaccination Mandates by Private Employers

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott signed a law this Friday prohibiting COVID-19 vaccination mandates by private employers.

Employers who violate Senate Bill 7 are subject to a $50,000 fine.

In addition, they are exposed to a lawsuit and precautionary measures from the Attorney General of Texas, the governor indicated in written statements.

On the other hand, as explained, the bill allows the Texas Workforce Commission to investigate complaints from employees, contractors or prospective employees or contractors who allege that their employer or prospective employer has taken adverse action against them for not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

In October 2021, Abbott issued an executive order prohibiting COVID-19 vaccination mandates across the state, including for employees and consumers.
