The foreign ministers of the United States and South Korea have agreed to take concerted action against military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his South Korean counterpart Park Jin met in Seoul on Thursday.
The two shared “deep concerns” about North Korea’s “increasing and dangerous military cooperation with Russia,” calling it a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and a serious threat to the world.
They also reaffirmed that the two countries will work closely to strengthen the validity of the United States’ extended deterrence commitment to defend its allies with nuclear weapons and other capabilities.
At a news conference after their meeting, Blinken highlighted supposed bilateral military trade between Russia and North Korea. He suggested that the United States would respond to these measures in cooperation with South Korea and other allies.
He also expressed hope that China will play a constructive role to “keep North Korea away from irresponsible and dangerous behavior.”
