Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7 did not kill 1,400 on the Israeli side, but 1,200. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on Friday.
According to a spokesperson, the ministry has reason to believe that the bodies found that have not been identified included fewer Israeli victims. “We now believe those bodies belong to terrorists,” a spokesperson said.
For more than a month, the Israeli government assumed there were around 1,400 victims, some of whom were considered missing. In addition, approximately 240 people have been abducted to the Palestinian Gaza Strip. It was recently announced that approximately 1,200 deaths could be identified. This concerns at least 840 civilians and around 350 military personnel.
Although the death toll has been revised downwards, the October 7 Hamas attack remains the deadliest attack on Israeli soil since the state’s founding in 1948.
The death toll among Israeli soldiers continues to rise. According to the newspaper The Times of Israël At least 37 soldiers have already been killed in the ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas’ attacks also continue to this day. Earlier on Friday, Hamas said it had fired rockets deep into Israel. The rockets set off air raid sirens in Tel Aviv. Emergency workers in the city said they had treated two women for injuries sustained by fragments from the rockets.
