The economic leaders of the two countries met ahead of the second US-China summit, which is expected to be held at the Apex Summit in San Francisco.
These are U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen, known as the ‘global economic czar’, and Vice Premier Heifeng, China’s ‘fiscal and financial commander’.
The two sides will coordinate economic issues, including U.S. export controls and China’s trade practices, and the summit agenda for two days.
Secretary Yellen emphasized that she does not want a disastrous ‘decoupling’ in which the economy and China are separated.
However, we decided to directly convey our concerns about China’s unfair practices that prevent fair competition.
Vice Premier Heo Heifeng said he would seek ways to return economic and trade relations between the United States and China to their original track.
He then said that the purpose of the meeting was to implement the tasks presented by the leaders of the United States and China, and that he would convey concerns in the economic and investment sectors.
[허리펑 / 중국 국무원 부총리 : 베이징에서 만난 지 4개월도 안 돼 다시 만났습니다. 서로 관심 있는 주제를 놓고 깊이 있게 논의할 것입니다.]
Secretary Yellen explained that for the national security of the United States and its allies, efforts will continue to prevent misunderstandings or misjudgments along with measures targeting specific areas.
This is President Xi Jinping’s first visit to the United States in six years and the first U.S.-China summit in one year.
Attention is being paid to whether this will serve as an opportunity to restore U.S.-China relations.
