Latvian goalkeeper Elvis Merzlikins did not participate in the National Hockey League (NHL) game on Thursday, in which his Columbus “Blue Jackets” team lost.
The “Blue Jackets” lost to the Dallas “Stars” at home with the result 2:5 (2:1, 0:2, 0:2), experiencing the third defeat in a row.
In the first third, the home team needed a little more than a minute to score the first goal, with Boone Jenner on target, and less than eight minutes later, Kirill Marchenko doubled the Blue Jackets’ lead.
Dallas responded with a goal by Mason Marchment in the first period, while Craig Smith tied the score midway through the second period, and Matt Duchene finished off the counterattack with a shot in the Blue Jackets’ goal to give the Stars the lead.
Tyler Segin made it 4-2 in favor of the Dallas unit at the beginning of the final third. Less than three minutes before the end of regular time, when the Columbus team had replaced the goalkeeper with a sixth player, Jason Robertson sent the puck into the home team’s goal from the other end of the field.
Blue Jackets’ goal was guarded by Spencer Martin, who stopped 26 shots, while at the other end of the field, Jake Ottinger saved 27 shots.
With 11 points in 13 games, the Columbus team ranks 14th in the Eastern Conference and will play their next game on Saturday, when they will meet the Detroit Red Wings on the road.
