Due to the strong cold front, from tomorrow the 11th (Saturday) until the beginning of the week, there will be snow in some places in the plains of northern Japan, and snow will fall in the mountains in eastern and western Japan as well. Even in sunny places, the cold monsoon winds blow and it gets very cold. In the mornings and evenings, temperatures will drop below 10 degrees Celsius across a wide area from Kanto to Kyushu, making it so cold that you’ll want to turn on the heater.
11th (Saturday) – 17th (Friday) Snow in the mountains in Honshu and cold towards the end of the week
From tomorrow the 11th (Saturday) to the 14th (Tuesday), strong cold air will flow in for this time of year.
It will snow intermittently in Hokkaido and northern Tohoku, and snow will accumulate even in flat areas. There is a possibility of heavy snowfall in Hokkaido until the 13th (Monday). There are places in the mountains from southern Tohoku and northern Kanto, Hokuriku to the San’in region that will experience snow, and the snow may become heavier for a while. Vehicles must be equipped for snow.
Even in sunny places, cold monsoon winds blow and it gets very cold. In particular, the maximum temperature on the 12th (Sunday) and 13th (Monday) will be similar to December in some places, and will remain around 10℃ in Tohoku and Hokuriku. Even from Kanto to Kyushu, there are many places where the temperature does not reach 15℃, and in the morning and evening, the temperature drops widely below 10℃, making it so cold that you may want to turn on the heater. From now on, you will need a thick jacket or winter coat when commuting.
The weather will be downhill from the west on the 16th (Thursday), and rain will fall across the country on the 17th (Friday) as a front passes through.
First snow of the season. Be careful even if you are used to it.
Even if you live in a place that gets a lot of snow in the winter, once the summer is over, you tend to forget what it feels like to drive a car on snowy roads. When it comes to the first snow of the season, even if you are used to snow, there are two things you need to be aware of:
(1) Be sure to replace your tires with studless tires or install tire chains. For studless tires, check in advance whether they have sufficient tread. Even studless tires that are not used much will deteriorate over time, so they need to be inspected before the season.
(2) Even if you are in a hurry, avoid sudden driving such as sudden braking, sudden steering operations, sudden starts, and sudden lane changes. If you drive suddenly, your car will be more likely to skid. When starting the car or going uphill, gently press the accelerator to avoid spinning the tires. When going downhill, reduce your speed by using engine braking and adjusting the accelerator and brake appropriately.
18th (Saturday) – 23rd (Thursday) Although it remains cold in the mornings and evenings, it is comfortable during the sunny days.
After the rain on Friday the 17th, strong cold air will return to northern Japan. There are places in Hokkaido where it will snow, and it will also snow on the Sea of Japan side of Tohoku and Hokuriku.
It looks like there will be many days when the sun will reach the Pacific Ocean. Although the mornings and evenings are cold, the daytime temperature can reach nearly 20 degrees Celsius in some places, making it a pleasant day to spend time in the sun.
