A longevity specialist has revealed the supplement he takes daily to slow down the aging process.
“I have been a researcher in the field of longevity and regenerative medicine for over 20 years, and one of the questions I receive most often is what type of supplement do I take to slow down the aging process,” said the doctor in an article for Make It Neil Paulvin.
He revealed that the supplement he has been taking daily for several years is taurine, an essential amino acid that plays an important role in the body’s digestive, cardiovascular, bone, muscular and nervous systems.
“I noticed a general improvement in energy level, physical performance and recovery time after exercise,” said the doctor.
What are the anti-aging benefits of taurine?
Many people may not have heard of taurine, but numerous studies have been done to discover the potential of this amino acid.
Here are some of its benefits:
Improves heart health
Aging usually has a direct effect on the heart and leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Taurine has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and allows the body to balance electrolytes and improve lipids.
It also contributes to the regulation of blood pressure and supports the functions of blood vessels, which maintains optimal circulation and reduces the risk of hypertension, atherosclerosis (thickening of blood vessels) and heart attack.
The surprising factor that contributes to the increase of women’s longevity
It stimulates energy production at the mitochondrial level
Mitochondria are responsible for energy production in the body. You probably remember from your school biology lessons that they were also called the “energy factories” of cells. But as we get older, mitochondrial dysfunction can contribute to the onset of chronic fatigue and other ailments associated with old age. Taurine helps protect these essential elements from the cell level.
It can stimulate the production of stem cells
Stem cells are the key to tissue repair and regeneration. But as the body ages, the number and activity of stem cells decline. Studies have shown that taurine can help stimulate the production of stem cells, especially neural stem cells, which improves brain function. It also helps to regenerate various tissues throughout the body.
Increases muscle mass
Taurine has an effect of increasing the volume of cells, attracts water in muscle cells and creates a favorable environment for increasing muscle mass. And this helps people who make physical effort to train more and, over time, accumulate muscle mass. In combination with a proper diet and an exercise program, all of this can help slow down the aging process.

May help repair DNA
One of the main causes of aging is the cumulative degradation of cellular DNA, which can lead to mutations and increase the risk of cancer and other diseases. Taurine has DNA protection capabilities due to its ability to fight free radicals, while supporting the DNA repair mechanism that reduces the occurrence of genetic mutations and contributes to the overall health of cells.
Contributes to lowering blood pressure
Taurine has been shown to have the potential to lower blood pressure through several mechanisms. It supports vasodilation – the relaxation and widening of blood vessels – which has the effect of better blood circulation and a decrease in pressure on the walls of the arteries. Also, researchers have discovered that taurine can inhibit the release of cortisol, the stress hormone, which can increase blood pressure.
Taurine is not a “magic pill” for longevity
Dr. Paulvin says that he takes about 2000 mg of taurine per day, but those who have never taken this supplement before should start with small doses of 500-1000 mg, which they gradually increase.
The specialist warns that there is no miracle cure against aging, but also that moderation is the key. He recommends always talking to your doctor before taking any type of supplement.
How does protein consumption influence the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging
“If you don’t want to take supplements, you can add more foods rich in taurine to your diet. Some of my favorites are chicken, turkey, tilapia, tuna, seaweed, clams and beef,” says the doctor.
“Another thing I always remind people is that while supplements have a role in supporting health and longevity, they need to be part of a comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness that includes a healthy diet, regular exercise, managing stress and other choices for a healthy lifestyle”, adds Dr. Paulvin.
