AIK moves to Råstasjön’s IP.

The news has been met with great joy, but also other feelings.

– Once again, it is football that is prioritized, says Davina McVey Gillion, CEO of Hufvudsta riding school with 1,400 children in the queue.

“Exciting, fun, finally”, “Fantastic” and “Living by Råstasjön will be even better”.

Gnaget fans received the news of the club’s new home, which Mitt i reported on yesterday, with great joy on AIK football’s X account (formerly Twitter).

But the AIK investment also raises questions, and some concern in sports Solna.

Niklas Heggestad, team manager in Apollon Solna FK who, among other things, trains at Råstasjön’s IP, feels torn.

– All football teams in Solna suffer from a lack of pitches, and now Råstasjön’s IP is given to AIK’s men, while AIK’s ladies and the academy will use Skytteholm’s IP more. I can only see it as fewer training opportunities for others.

At the same time, he understands the investment.

– I have been an AIK member all my life and understand that Solna is proud of AIK. But you must not forget all the other associations. I think this may stick in the eyes of some, not only at other football clubs.

Want to see more equality

Hufvudsta riding school, which has 1,400 children in the queue and which has long been pushing for a new, larger riding hall and better facilities, posted a slightly sour post on Facebook after the news about AIK’s residency:

“We are happy with AIK Elite football and at the same time thinking about renaming ourselves AIK riding school, maybe then we will achieve better success with Solna city”.

Davina McVey Gillion, CEO of the riding school, elaborates on the reasoning:

– We have wooed Solna’s politicians and officials for many years to make them understand how many children and young people we have with us. We are like a leisure farm. Therefore, of course, it feels difficult that football is once again the priority. The fact that it is a new political government does not seem to matter. History repeats itself.

She emphasizes that they are not negative about the AIK investment. But she calls more for an equal distribution of the sports money, in a first step an investigation of how the municipality’s resources are distributed between boys’ and girls’ sports.

AIK Football finds a home. Their new training facility will be at the Råstasjön IP next to Friends’ home arena.

Solna city, AIK Football and Fabege jointly invited today, Wednesday, to a press meeting at Friends Arena to make the announcement.

Råstasjön’s IP, where today there is worn artificial grass, will be equipped with natural grass with a self-watering system and a clubhouse, and become AIK Soccer’s men’s new training facility.

Skytteholm’s IP will also be equipped on a large scale and used by AIK’s children and young people as well as ladies.

– We agree to create a residence for AIK Football in Solna. AIK belongs in Solna. This is an investment in both the elite and the broad, says the chairman of the municipal board in Solna, says Sara Kukka-Salam (S).

– We are many Solna residents and AIK members who have been waiting for this.

Divests Karlberg

Gathering operations in Solna is, according to AIK’s CEO and club director Fredrik Söderberg, both long-awaited and natural.

– We have been active in Solna since the 1930s and the club is deeply rooted in Solna with our children and youth activities and sees us as a driving social actor in the city.

AIK wanted the men’s training to be held at the Råstasjön IP, which is next door to Friends’ home arena, rather than at the Skytteholm IP.

Fredrik Söderberg says that it will create significantly better training opportunities than those at the current Karlberg facility, which AIK intends to sell.

– This means that we can take bigger steps sportingly, he says.

Fabege

Fabege has been the main partner of the club since 2012 and is also a co-owner of Friends Arena.

The new facility at Råstasjöns IP should be completed in 2026.

Restaurants towards Frösundaleden

As for Skytteholm’s IP, new changing rooms and stands will be built, among other things.

In addition, the city of Solna wants to develop the site between Skytteholms IP and Frösundaleden with a new taller office building for the football crowd with restaurants, commercial premises and family stands, according to a proposal that the Social Democrats put forward before the election.

The site is currently home to parking and the Max hamburger chain. An external actor will be responsible for the financing, is the plan.
