The NPO launched the new digital radio channel NPO BLEND on Thursday. This is a pilot of at least one year. BLEND focuses on the generations who grew up with NPO FunX and are looking for “an adult sound”.
FunX channel manager Chanelva Rier and Menno de Boer, channel manager of NPO 3FM, are jointly responsible for BLEND. With the station, the NPO wants to offer listeners between the ages of 35 and 54 “a varied mix of R&B, Afro, new soul and hip-hop”.
“Especially in the beginning, the new channel will focus on a wide range of musical styles. Listeners will soon also be able to find news, culture and stories that appeal to the target group.”
The launch of BLEND comes after a protest by dozens of musicians last summer. They felt that the NPO pays too little attention to certain music. Chairman Frederieke Leeflang then called on broadcasters to come up with plans for programs that put these movements in the spotlight.
BLEND can be listened to via DAB+ and NPO Listen.
