Israel is introducing daily humanitarian pauses in the northern Gaza Strip starting today.
Israeli authorities have agreed to a humanitarian pause in the northern Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army continues its military operation against Hamas militants.
Starting today, there will be a daily four-hour pause during which the IDF will not conduct combat operations in the Palestinian enclave. The US authorities received the corresponding assurances from the Israeli leadership. Reports this BBC News citing a White House statement.
Civilians in the Gaza Strip will be able to take advantage of humanitarian aid to evacuate from dangerous areas.
The US presidential administration called the decision of the Israeli authorities “a step in the right direction.” The White House has repeatedly persuaded Israel to make humanitarian pauses in the Palestinian enclave, believing that this could also have a positive impact on the negotiation process for the release of hostages captured by Hamas militants during the October 7 attack on Israeli territory.
Meanwhile, the head of the American General Staff, Charles Brown, admits that the war in the Gaza Strip may drag on. He calls Israel’s stated goal – the complete destruction of Hamas as an organization – “too great a desire”, reports Reuters.
It was previously reported that Israel rejected Washington’s requests for a pause in the fighting in Gaza. The Israeli side argued that it would not agree to a suspension of hostilities until the militants freed the hostages.
Let us recall that the day before, the head of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Yoav Galant, said that the Israeli army had entered the center of Gaza, and the Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar found himself surrounded in his bunker.
