“I’m honored to hear that he thought of me to play him,” Efron told People magazine on Wednesday during the premiere of his latest film ‘The Iron Claw’. “We will see. I would be honored to do it.”
The two actors once worked closely together on the film “17 Again,” where Efron played a younger version of Perry’s character. “He was a mentor to me,” the actor said. He is therefore “devastated” by Perry’s unexpected death. “I looked up to him. I learned comedic timing from him. When we were filming ’17 Again’ it was so surreal to look across the street and see him there. I learned so much from him, from his whole life.”
Athenna Crosby, a friend of Perry, previously told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ that the actor wanted to sign Efron for a biopic. “He wanted Zac Efron to play the younger version of himself and said he would ask him soon.” The ‘Friends’ actor was enthusiastic about the idea of filming his life and looked optimistically to the future, Crosby added. “He noted that there has been a resurgence of public interest in him recently and hoped to take advantage of that to revive his career.”
