Speaking exclusively to L’Équipe, Chelsea’s new summer recruit, Axel Disasi (25), spoke about his rapid adaptation to new responsibilities with the Blues.
Quick adaptation to Chelsea
When the former Monegasque joined Todd Boehly’s newly acquired side at the start of August, among a star-studded group of talent worth more than £400 million, some people wondered if he had the shoulders to handle the weight of being one of the leaders of such an inexperienced team.
National team journey
Let’s face it, it’s been an eventful few months for the Frenchman, starting on November 9, 2022, when national team coach Didier Deschamps selected him, among 22 others, to represent the country at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Three weeks later, he made his debut against Tunisia, in the final match of the group stage. An experience which, according to him, “changed” him.
Important role at Chelsea
A little less than a year later, and after 11 Premier League matches (including 10 as a starter), Disasi has earned himself a place in Chelsea’s starting XI. “He (Mauricio Pochettino) gave me the necessary confidence. He didn’t hesitate to put me in the team a week after my arrival,” Disasi told L’Équipe.
Join Chelsea
“When I started again with Monaco, I was looking for a transfer, so I prepared very well during the summer pre-season. The Premier League also appealed to me a lot […] In the long run, I knew I had to join a more prestigious club. I had to step out of my comfort zone,” he added. Disasi is the third most used outfield player this season, behind only club-trained Levi Colwill and Conor Gallagher. He hopes to be part of the France squad for the Euro qualifying matches against Gibraltar and Greece, which will be announced on Thursday.
