They called me Black Dog; Standing back during the dance: Raghava Lawrence
Raghava Lawrence is a very favorite actor of Malayalees. His new film is Jigarthanda Double X. Raghava Lawrence had reached Kochi the other day as part of the promotion of this film.
The trailer of the film talked about a black man playing the lead role in a pan Indian film. Talking about it, the actor talks about the bad experience he faced because of his color when he came as a dancer.
He says that when he was a group dancer, he was shunned for being black and called Black Dog. Lawrence added that it was only after Prabhu Deva came that there was a change in seeing people on the basis of color, and then talent began to matter.
“Nowadays, no one is excluded because of their color. But there have been such experiences before. That was when I was a group dancer. After Prabhu Deva Master came, there was a change in seeing people as black and white.
Before that I was called Black Dog. He used to be told to stay behind in the dance group. Even if you are standing in the second row in the group, you are told to go back and stand. I started my career as a group dancer.
That changed after Prabhu Deva Master came. Later, talent was given importance instead of color. At that time, I felt happy when talking about the black hero in the film.
But we are in this position today because they all said that we are black in the past. We should definitely thank them for that,’ says Raghava Lawrence.
Jigarthanda is a Karthik Subbaraj film which was a big hit in 2014. It featured Siddharth, Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Sinha and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles.
In its second part, S.J. Suriya and Raghava Lawrence are the lead characters. The story of the 70s is told in the film. The movie also stars Shine Tom Chacko and Nimisha Sajayan from Malayalam.
