Kandala Cooperative Bank Irregularity; Ex-President Bhasurangan was expelled by CPI
Thiruvananthapuram: CPI sacked former president of Kandala Cooperative Bank Bhasurangan. The action followed the Enforcement Directorate raid. The 26-hour-long raid is currently ongoing at Bhasurangan’s house and the Kandala Cooperative Bank.
CPI district secretary Mankot Radhakrishnan said that the allegations against Bhasurangan are serious and the decision of the district leadership is to take strict action. He said that Bhasurangan was removed from the district executive and district council after the allegations surfaced.
Radhakrishnan said that CPI took this decision on the basis of understanding that Bhasurangan was involved in the irregularities in Kandala Cooperative Bank and had committed a lapse. He clarified that Bhasurangan was expelled from the primary membership of the CPI.
A party leader was subjected to an acid attack and another leader committed suicide due to irregularities in the bank. It has been a year since the irregularities in the Co-operative Bank came to light and during this period 64 complaints and a report by the Co-operative Bank Register were filed against Bhasurangan. But the CPI was forced to expel former president Bhasurangan from the party with the ED’s inspection.
Bhasurangan collapsed during the raid and was later rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and shifted to the intensive care unit.
Last day, senior Congress leader of Wayanad and former KPCC General Secretary K.K. Abraham was arrested by ED. The arrest of ED was conducted during the vigilance investigation regarding the fraud in Pulpally Service Cooperative Bank.
It is estimated that a fraud of 8 crores has taken place in the Co-operative Bank. The scam comes to light when a farmer commits suicide due to debt. Another defrauded family is K.K. A complaint has been filed against Abraham.
