Uruguayan Business Climate Receives “Extremely Positive” Evaluation, Survey Finds

MONTEVIDEO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) — The majority of businessmen in Uruguay have an “extremely positive” evaluation of the local business climate, the Business Expectations Survey of the consulting firm Exante revealed Wednesday.

85 percent of the 300 managers or senior executives of firms operating in the country and who were consulted by the survey rated the business climate as “good” or “very good.”

“Our last survey once again collected an extremely positive evaluation of the business climate,” said the Exante report.

However, “several signs of a less favorable situation were strengthened” in line with “what the macroeconomic indicators indicate, with the shift towards more restrictive financial conditions in the international context and with the fact that several sectors remain exposed to severe difficulties.” of competitiveness with the region”.

“On a positive note, it is highlighted that the sharp drop in inflation observed in recent months (3.87 percent) gave rise to a significant adjustment in inflation expectations” and “half believe that it will be within the target range (whose ceiling is 6 percent),” he added.

Furthermore, “almost 40 percent of those surveyed indicated that their companies are not incorporating minor nominal price and cost adjustments in their budgets for next year.”

This “shows that inflationary inertia still represents an important challenge for economic policy,” Exante added.

The Government of President Luis Lacalle Pou foresees economic growth of 1.3 percent for 2023 and 3.7 percent for 2024.
