Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Rejects Ceasefire in Gaza Without Hostage Release

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again rejected on Wednesday any ceasefire in the Gaza Strip without the release of hostages held by Hamas, against the backdrop of information about mediation undertaken by Qatar for a humanitarian truce.

Earlier, a source close to the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip confirmed the existence of negotiations on a “three-day humanitarian pause” in exchange for the release of 12 hostages, “half of whom are Americans.”

In Doha, a source close to the negotiations told Agence France-Presse, “Negotiations are underway, mediated by Qatar, in coordination with the United States, to secure the release of 10 to 15 hostages in exchange for a ceasefire for a day or two” in Gaza. The source confirmed that progress on the truce currently depends on the “duration” of the truce and “the northern Gaza Strip, which is witnessing large-scale combat operations.”

In Washington, the White House said it may take more than one truce to get all the hostages out of Gaza.

But the Israeli Prime Minister once again rejected any ceasefire without the release of the hostages.

Netanyahu said during his meeting with representatives of settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to a statement from his office, “I want to deny any kind of rumors that reach us from all sides, to repeat clearly one thing: There will be no ceasefire without the release of our hostages. Everything else is useless.” from him”.
