Renault Group Launches Ampere: European Leader in Electric Vehicles & Software Division

Renault Group on Tuesday launched Ampere, its electric car and specialized software division, which aims to become the European leader in the electric vehicle market, according to an announcement by the French group. Ampere is focused on technology, and the goal of the launch is to democratize electric vehicles in Europe, with cars that people can afford. It should be noted that the plant and the other Renault facilities in Romania are not part of the Ampere project, as they remain dedicated to vehicles with classic combustion engines.

Ampere operates in 11 locations in France, including four industrial units: ElectriCity which includes factories in Douai, Maubeuge and Ruitz; and the Cléon factory.

The company has more than 11,000 employees – 35% of whom are engineers – who design, develop, manufacture and market vehicles.

“The creation of a new business model, specialized in electric vehicles and software, operational starting today challenged us to think about how we can better illustrate our revolution and the ambition of the teams? Instilling a sustainable corporate vision and translating it into every process and every product. Building on the Group’s strengths and rethinking every way of doing things. Capitalizing on our French roots and becoming a leader in Europe. Communicating our commitment to our customers, our planet and those who live on it. Ampere’s roadmap lives up to the Group’s ambitions and I am extremely proud to launch this major milestone in its evolution,” said Luca de Meo, Ampere Renault Group CEO.

The Ampere logo started from the rhombus shape, Renault’s emblematic symbol. The logo is composed of several rhombuses.

Led by Luca de Meo, Ampere CEO, the management team brings together people from within the Renault Group as well as from outside the automotive industry and international technology companies.
