the union movement launches a strike notice – Conakryinfos.com

The general secretaries of the thirteen (13) trade union centers and members of the trade union movement discussed for several hours this Tuesday, November 7, 2023 before deciding to send a strike notice to the Ministry of Civil Service.

It was the meeting room of the Labor Exchange which served as the setting for this decisive stage of the standoff that the trade union movement is now engaging in with the Guinean government.

At the end of the meeting, the first deputy secretary general of the National Confederation of Workers of Guinea (CNTG), Kader Aziz Camara, indicated that the government never wanted to budge on its position in this negotiation: “ The discussions focused on improving the living and working conditions of civil servants as the union movement had initially demanded a 100% increase, while the government remained on 20%. In the end, we asked to suspend this point so that we can move forward on the second point which concerns a salary increase for workers in the private sector up to 70%. But at this level too, there has been no progress “, he said.

Before adding that: “ The other shortcoming concerns civil servants’ housing. The government has proposed building housing, but not supporting rental costs. Faced with these attitudes of the government and employers who have not made the new desired proposals, the union movement plans to go on strike in the coming days “, declared Kader Aziz Camara.
