Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has called out players for lacking patience these days, saying they expect content all the time, while also hoping it reaches a certain level of quality.
In a conversation with The Verge Regarding the future of Blizzard now that it has been acquired by Xbox, Ybarra said the following:
“Players have no patience. They want new things every day, every hour. We try to respond that way while keeping Blizzard’s quality bar high. We know players literally want new content almost every day. At the same time, it takes big teams to be able to deliver that. So you have to monetize it the right way. At the same time, I always tell the teams, ‘If someone spends one dollar or one cent on Blizzard, I want them to feel good after they do that How do we get to a world where we know that that will always be the basis of what we do?’ “
Over the past 12 months, Blizzard has been heavily criticized for monetizing Diablo IV, Overwatch 2, and other titles. Fans are getting sick of battle passes and overpriced cosmetic items, and yet it appears Blizzard isn’t backing away from this strategy just yet.
