The Ministry of National Education sent a note on November 6, 2023 to the heads of secondary schools, to take all necessary measures to put an end to the illicit sale of textbooks in their respective establishments.
The sale of booklets in schools in Gabon is becoming more and more recurrent; some teachers put together booklets or booklets of their lessons and ask students to buy in order to complete the lessons. The latter go so far as to expel from their classes students who do not obtain one.
Faced with this situation, the Estuaire academy director Fortuné Nguema wanted to warn teachers that “Any violator of this document is subject to the sanctions provided for by the regulations in force. I attach importance to strict compliance with this instruction“. According to him, this responsibility is reserved for booksellers, the only entities approved for the sale of school books. Note that this decision is in accordance with note No. 1667/MERTTENFC/CAB-M dated December 17, 2020. According to this note, the Minister of National Education prohibited the sale of booklets in secondary education establishments and gave instructions To this end, it is up to all central administration officials to ensure, as far as they are concerned, the strict application of the regulatory provisions in force, governing the sale of books and school works.
