The Elephant in the Studio: Actress Lelde Dreimane’s Heartbreaking Story of Her Father’s Tragic Death

“That day we found out that dad was found dead. I got a call from the State Police and said that the body of a man had been found, which could possibly be my father,” Lelde recalls in the program.

Lelde went to the police station with her mother, and Lelde’s mother decided to recognize the photo of the dead person on the computer. “Mum was watching and it was really crazy. The computer was with her back to me, mum went to the screen and I saw in mum’s eyes that it was dad. At that moment it felt like all the pain in the world was going through you, you still can’t believe it ,” says Lelde.

The actress does not hide that initially she was tormented by thoughts that her father’s death might be her fault, her sister and mother also had the same thoughts. “I realized very quickly that none of us were to blame. All we can do is get on with life, I keep doing what dad always wanted me to do. [..] I had a very long period of grief. I even indulged in them for a moment – sadness literally overwhelmed me, I live with sadness.”
