Dusseldorf. On November 11th it’s getting crowded in Düsseldorf. In addition to the Hoppeditz awakening, the large Palestine rally has also been registered. The fools remain calm.
This Saturday, November 11th, the Hoppeditz awakens again on Düsseldorf’s market square and heralds the start of the foolish season. The vice president of the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee (CC), Stefan Kleinehr, is particularly pleased that November 11th. This year it falls on a Saturday: “It will be full in the old town.” There will be events with lots of music all day long. The foolish procession from the banks of the Rhine to the market square begins at 10:30 a.m. The CC already has around 1,000 registrations. It will be the biggest move in recent years.
The city will be full
Those responsible for the CC are optimistic that, despite one or two adversities, it will be an all-round successful start: a large rally about the war in the Gaza Strip has been announced for Saturday. But the CC is convinced that they won’t get in each other’s way. At the same time, construction is underway on the old treasure trove on the market square. The construction site will be reduced by about half by Saturday so that the crazy hustle and bustle can take place, as CC organization boss Sven Gerling explains.
The further timetable
On Sunday, November 12th, the Kinderhoppeditz awakening will take place at the same location. An extremely important “platform for the children,” as Kleinehr emphasized. On November 17th, Prince Uwe I and Venetia Melanie will be ceremoniously crowned from 7 p.m. On Saturday, November 18th, the royal couple will move into the Hofburg, the Hotel Kö59, with drums and trumpets. The CC service is scheduled for Sunday, November 19th. The first date in the new year will take place on January 4, 2024. The CC holds its ARD television meeting in the town hall. There are still a few tickets available for the event at www.helau.cc.
Danger of earworms: “Wat ett nitt all jewt”
The CC also presented this year’s theme song. Michael Hermes and band contributed it. Hermes is a real carnival veteran and has been making session songs for 28 years. “I actually never wanted to do a theme song again,” he revealed, but then he couldn’t resist. With the theme “Wat ett nit all jöwt”, a modern carnival song is intended to encourage fools to sing along. The song will be available on YouTube and common music streaming portals from Friday, November 10th at 11:11 a.m.
