The 18 Bundesliga clubs have temporarily handed over a total of 80 players to other clubs. While players on loan within Germany largely remain on the fans’ radar, performances in Belgium, Italy or Mexico tend to fade into the background here. Transfermarkt gives an overview of the start of the season for the 33 Bundesliga players who were loaned abroad, where BVB professional Soumaïla Coulibaly (20) and Bayern’s Malik Tillman (21) in particular were able to play a strong role in the foreground.

Of the 33 players on loan abroad, 24 break the million mark in terms of market value, and some have already recorded a significant increase in just a few weeks. So Tillman increased from 5 million to 8 million euros in PSV Eindhoven’s uniform, even though the offensive power of the Eredivisie league leaders, who are still unbeaten, is not an undisputed regular force and was only on the pitch for 483 of 1,530 possible minutes.

“Tillman is developing well at PSV, although he doesn’t yet have a permanent place in the first eleven. He has to compete with Ismael Saibari and Isaac Babadi, two talents from our own youth who are also given a lot of chances by coach Peter Bosz,” describes Kevin Lux, Transfermarkt Area Manager Netherlands. “Tillman is proving to be a valuable option with creative and goal-scoring abilities. To date, only Coulibaly has recorded a greater appreciation than Tillman in the ranks of Champions League participants Royal Antwerp. The Dortmund player is part of coach Mark van Bommel’s team, was on the pitch for 1,230 minutes in 15 games and increased his market value from one million to 6 million euros. Hugo Siquet, who has only missed 100 minutes at Cercle Bruges and made his debut for Belgium in September, was also able to improve in Belgium. Since the start of the season, Freiburg’s earnings have increased from 3.3 million to 4.5 million euros.

For the two most valuable Bundesliga loanees, however, the season is not yet going as hoped. Leverkusen’s Sardar Azmoun (28) and Leipzig’s André Silva (28) missed the start of the season with injuries and were not even on the pitch for 90 minutes for their new clubs AS Roma and Real Sociedad San Sebastián.

Bundesliga comparison: RB Leipzig has the most players on loan abroad

RB has the most loan players abroad in the Bundesliga. In addition to Silva, the sextet includes the young talents Hugo Novoa (20), who has been converted into a right-back at FC Utrecht, Caden Clark (20) and Sanoussy Ba (19), as well as Fabrice Hartmann (22) and Angeliño (26). Only the last two mentioned have so far been able to sustainably assert themselves at Sligo Rovers and Galatasaray respectively. In contrast to Leipzig, two clubs, 1. FC Köln (four players on loan) and 1. FC Heidenheim (one player on loan), have not sent any professionals abroad.

The Netherlands is particularly popular for loans, where eight Bundesliga professionals are temporarily playing. In addition to the aforementioned Tillman and Novoa, Mohamed Sankoh (20), Abdenego Nankishi (21), Henri Koudossou (24), Sadik Fofana (20), Oscar Fraulo (19) and Mio Backhaus (19) want to recommend themselves to their regular club here. The U20 international Backhaus, who was loaned out from Werder Bremen to FC Volendam, is the only one of the 33 players on loan abroad who has not missed a minute of play. In eleven games, the goalkeeper did not concede a goal once for the Eredivisie club, which is in the bottom of the table, and his market value recently increased by 400,000 to 700,000 euros.

The most unlucky person among the Bundesliga loan players is Bartosz Bialek, who suffered another serious knee injury just three days after moving from VfL Wolfsburg to KAS Eupen and was out for months. This means that the Pole is the only one without a minute of action. The furthest away from Germany is VfB professional Mateo Klimowicz, who will soon be fighting for the Liga MX Apertura title with Atlético de San Luis in Mexico in the championship playoffs. The youngest player on loan abroad is Bayern talent Arijon Ibrahimovic, who at the age of 17 has only been on the pitch for 179 of 900 minutes, but recently caused a sensation with two goals.
