A 23-year-old undocumented Cuban man was arrested last week in the city of Milan, Italy, after he tried to steal the purse of a 79-year-old woman.
According to local media The day, The incident occurred on October 31 around noon, on Via Matteotti in Bollate.
The detainee, whose identity was not revealed, approached the window of the victim’s car with an accomplice. Both tried to use an alleged flat tire as an excuse, this with the aim of distracting the old woman and being able to take possession of her things.
However, a witness who was passing by noticed the situation and alerted the authorities, while preventing the Cuban from escaping the scene. Police arrived at the scene, detained the young man and recovered the stolen property.
The bag that the young man had taken contained several personal belongings and about 35 euros in cash.
Now, the Antillean faces charges of aggravated robbery, for which he was detained at police facilities pending a legal process. For his part, the accomplice of the detained young man managed to escape.
After a brief investigation, it was discovered that the Cuban was in European territory illegally, and that he had a criminal record.
For now, the authorities continue to investigate the case to find the accomplice who fled and determine what to do with the undocumented Antillean.
