What would the work be called? Art, Body and Resistance, was called the documentary that was made by creatives from San Luis. It is a 48-minute unit directed by Carolina Carlini and produced by Paula Santiago, along with a great cast made up of Cynthia Lucero; Desire Blair; Alondre Colaut and Keko Barrios.
“The documentary emerged as a need to tell stories about the LGBTQ+ community in San Luis. We want to make visible the importance of fighting for our rights, comprehensive sexual education and showing how art has been a great tool of transformation and resistance, a space of refuge and meeting for dissidents,” explained Paula Santiago.
“We interviewed local artists, who in addition to telling their stories prepared different performances. In each of them, the participants showed through music, dance and theater different situations that they wanted to name and make visible. Those who participated were Desire Blair, writer from the City of La Punta, Alondre Colaut and Cynthia Lucero musicians from Villa Mercedes and Keko Barrios who is a dancer, director and actor. Although he is a native of Buenos Aires, he currently works and lives in the Cuyo region, the producer described.
“Although the LGBTQ+ community has made a lot of progress in terms of rights, the greatest conflict is experienced indoors. It is an everyday job to continue breaking stereotypes in families, at work, on the street. Coming out of the closet and being who you want to be is not always an easy path. The message is mainly for dissidents, but it also applies to other groups and minorities that are socially discriminated against today. We hope to leave a message that has to do with inclusion, with freedom and with art as a path of resilience,” she added.
The audiovisual was recorded in San Luis with a team made up of 90% women and dissidents. The goal of the creators was to give space to local professionals to show their talent in a project with national scope. It was screened to the public last Thursday, November 2 at the “José La Vía” Cultural Center.
What would the work be called? Art, Body and resistance
It is a collective art creation that seeks to transform both social and personal reality. Play, creation, exploration as a path to freedom, a tool to repair damage and wounds in a community that is still punished today.
It has a new, young and dynamic approach, typical of this new theatrical generation and opens the door to the universe of the underground to discover a provocative, experimental, free art form, in constant change and search.
