The Attorney General Upholds Suspension in Controversial Police Shooting Case

– The Attorney General has settled the complaint, and the suspension that we decided has been upheld, confirms the special unit of NRK.

The farmer Hans Arne Nystad in Lavangen was shot and killed by a policeman on duty on 9 December 2022.

The case has now been dropped.

Bergens Tidende mentioned the closure first.

The Bureau of Police Affairs dismissed the case this summer, because they believe that the police were in an obvious emergency situation when the farmer Hans Arne Nystad was shot and killed by the police in Lavangen in Troms.

They concluded that no criminal relationship is considered proven.

The sequence of events

The incident occurred on December 9, 2022.

A police patrol of two was on the scene, because they had been asked to assist health personnel who were on their way to the address. It was Nystad himself who had called AMK.

Nystad was in the cab of a wheel loader when the police arrived at the scene. The wheel loader was then set in motion, and is said to have driven towards the uniformed police car, so that it overturned.

The late Hans Arne Nystad lost his life in the police action.

An official was inside the police car. The other got out before it overturned. The latter then fired 18–19 shots at the cab, so that Nystad died.
