Watch coach Abel Ferreira’s press conference after Palmeiras’ victory
When taking stock of his career in Brazilian football, the coach left his future open. The contract with Verdão ends at the end of 2024, but the club has a desire to try to maintain it until 2027, if president Leila Pereira is re-elected next year.

– I had difficult periods here, with my health, not only physical, but mental, too. I already said it in the last game, and people here don’t want to know that. That’s why I have to think very carefully about what I want, because here football doesn’t make anyone healthy. If you have doubts, look at me three years ago and look now. Something will have to change – he declared.
At other times, Abel has already said that he was thinking about taking a sabbatical in 2025, right after the end of his contract with the Palm trees.
In the tributes that took place last week for three years of work, Abel Ferreira was very emotional. He doesn’t give any indication internally that he would like to leave immediately, but a new renewal will not be simple.

– It’s been three years of hard work, with 11 finals. Honestly, since I’ve been here, no Palmeiras fans have come to complain to me about anything. Just gratitude. And there’s still more. Fans of other teams who come to talk to me and respect me, admire me. And that’s what I like most. I also respect and admire all clubs. Respect and admiration for the fans.
– Turbulence is part of it. And for me, that’s what defines a true champion. We take advantage of what is happening to rebuild ourselves to come stronger. It’s been three years of a lot of learning. Some titles won, many others lost. But you need to be in the Libertadores final, compete for titles, be in the Paulistão finals, win titles with the Palm trees that it didn’t already have, like the Supercopa and Recopa. We broke records after records – he added.
Abel Ferreira is still looking for his ninth title with Verdão at the end of the year, his third this season, with the Brasileiro. The next game will be this Wednesday, against Flamengo, away from home.
