New Messaging Features and Redesigned Interface in iOS 17: A Guide to Sending Voice Messages

Apple has added several new messaging features and redesigned the Messages app interface to give it a cleaner look in iOS 17. This means that the way you navigate and perform certain actions in the messaging app has changed slightly, according to macrumors.

For example, previously in iOS 16, sending a voice message involved tapping the waveform icon in the row of apps below the text input field to reveal the Record button, but in iOS 17‌, the row of buttons above the keyboard is gone, and all you have to do is Clicking now is the + button located to the left of the text field.

This + button brings up a vertical list of options, where you’ll find the volume button. Compared to the row of app icons that consolidated all the options in iOS 16, this makes the design much simpler, because it’s easier to see what’s going on with larger icons and text descriptions.

To record a voice message in iOS 17, simply press the audio button and the recording will start immediately. When you finish recording, press the red stop button. You can then listen to the recording by pressing the play button, or pressing the blue arrow to send the voice message. Or press X on the left to cancel.
