In Italy, efforts to restore the Tuscany region continue
The tornado that passed through Halkidiki uprooted dozens of trees, took the roofs of restaurants and houses and closed the country’s ports. Local media reported that the storm cut off communications and electricity in several areas. There is no electricity on the island of Corfu, and in Xanthi the element has caused serious damage to a school. In the Italian region of Tuscany, a river overflowed and flooded hundreds of homes. In Italy, storm Kieran has killed seven people and two others are still missing.
STORM KIERN: The death toll continues to rise in Western Europe
At the same time, efforts to restore the Tuscany region continue in Italy. One of the rivers overflowed, hundreds of homes were flooded, and two people are still missing. The storm “Kieran”, which hit Western Europe, led to the death of 7 people in Italy.
“At first it didn’t seem like the situation was that serious, it was raining but that’s not unusual. In the evening we saw a huge amount of water coming down towards our houses. We helped a lady who was on the first floor and then we started moving what we could from the homes. It’s terrible,’ said Tuscany resident Enza Carfagna.
“It was very scary. Landslides started taking away our houses. During the night, the water was coming down quickly towards us. Some people saw my mother, who is in a wheelchair, and took her outside. And I couldn’t get out. I also called the rescue services, but no one comes. Since six in the morning until now, no one has appeared while we are blocked in the village,” explained Mirella Durini.
