VALENCIA (EP). The Ministry of Health has administered nearly 400,000 doses of flu vaccines since the vaccination campaign began in the 2023-2024 season on October 16.
Specifically, there have been a total of 399,514 doses administered until November 2. If compared to the same period of the previous year, in which 330,178 doses were administered, there has been an increase of 21%.
By province, 38,771 doses have been administered in Castellón, 149,423 doses in Alicante and in Valencia 211,320 doses.
The Minister of Health, Marciano Gomezdespite the good results obtained so far, has encouraged “people at greater risk of developing complications from previous diseases to be vaccinated, as well as health workers and other groups of patients such as minors, to protect both their health and that of the people around them.
By risk groups, More than half of the doses have been administered to people with chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases (207,146 doses); and another 49,144 doses to immunosuppressed people, diabetics, people with kidney and neurological diseases.
For its part, People over 60 years of age in no other risk group have been immunized with 62,106 doses and health and social health workers have received 26,262 doses. The vaccination coverage achieved in healthcare personnel and those over 64 years of age in these two weeks is 32.02% and 22.50%, respectively.
Regarding children under five years of age without risk pathology, one of the new features of this season’s campaign, more than 17,000 doses have been administered in these first two weeks. Specifically, there have been 7,060 doses inoculated to babies from 6 months to 2 years old and 10,228 doses administered with the intranasal vaccine to boys and girls from 2 to 4 years old.
In this sense, the regional administration recalls that this year the flu vaccination campaign includes the administration of the vaccine among Valencians over 60 years of age, instead of the 65 years that were established until now.
Another novelty is that it includes healthy children under five years of age (between 6 and 59 months) without pathologyin order to immunize the greatest number of citizens and prevent infections, and the intranasal vaccine for 2 to 4 years, which offers greater protection against influenza virus infection, is easier to administer and less aggressive in preventing the puncture.
It is also planned to vaccinate against influenza for people between 5 and 59 years of age who have a higher risk of complications derived from influenza, such as: people between 5 and 18 years of age who receive long-term treatment with acetylsalicylic acid, due to the risk of developing Reye syndrome; people with direct occupational exposure to animals or their secretions on poultry, swine or mink farms or farms or to wildlife (birds, wild boars or mustelids); and smokers.

In this sense, citizens belonging to the risk groups for which vaccination against covid and flu is indicated, can request an appointment from the Gva +Salut APP and from the Conselleria de Sanitat website from the beginning of the campaign. .
Regarding the vaccination of pregnant women, routine pregnancy check-ups will be used to administer the vaccine in health centers.
