Bayumas City Police Chief Eddie Suranta Saitpu explained the situation at the time, saying, “Four tourists were crossing the glass bridge when the glass panel broke.”
Two people held on to the handle and did not fall, but the other two fell 10 meters. One of the two people who fell died.
Regarding the cause of the accident, Agus Supriadi, head of the criminal investigation department of the city of Bayumas, said, “The construction company used very thin glass. The bridge was not properly maintained after it was installed and was not inspected for safety.”
Police said, “The owner of the glass bridge where the accident occurred has been indicted on charges of manslaughter resulting in the death of the tourist.”
Meanwhile, according to local media, the thickness of the broken glass bridge was less than 2 cm. Considering that the thickness of the glass panel used in the Grand Canyon Skywalk in Arizona, USA is about 8 cm, the glass where the accident occurred is considered very thin.
