The original sound art of Jērgas Vidmanis vibrates a deep chord in the listeners – similar to how his breath vibrates a clarinet, the charm of which tone is hard to resist. At the beginning of 2024, the world-famous German clarinetist and conductor will become the artistic partner of the Riga State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta. This is an outstanding event in the life of Latvian music, which the orchestra will also celebrate in the “Lielais dzintars” concert hall in Liepāja, offering a magnificent inaugural concert program.
Often compared to the classicist genius Mozart or the romantic lyricist Schubert, Vidmanis literally lives and breathes in music. Vidmanis’ suggestive clarinet playing enchants with passionate musicality and unusual natural lightness, and his multi-layered compositions include such greats as Andris Nelsons, Pāvo Jervi and Simon Rattles in their concert programs.
