A 29-year-old had previously gone to the police and said he had strangled a child he was supposed to be looking after. The drunk man was taken into police custody. The judiciary is investigating attempted murder.
The man told officials on Friday evening in Choisy-le-Roi, south of Paris, where he had left the boy. Passers-by had already noticed the child there and had also alerted the security forces. The child’s body showed signs of beating and strangulation, the public prosecutor’s office said.
The authorities were able to identify the child after his parents did not find their seven-year-old son and his babysitter when they returned home and called the police. According to the parents, the man had been looking after the boy for three years.
