The La Suisse Normande cheese dairy is one of the producers who offer a new way to facilitate the discovery of Quebec cheeses.
Reminiscent of the taste tablets used at the Société des alcools du Québec, the new cheese classification tool offers an aromatic profile on three levels: flavor, intensity and texture.
Flavor allows us to describe the flavor, aromas or even smell. Intensity helps to better understand the strength with which the different attributes of the cheese will be perceived. Texture refers to how it feels in the mouth.
Vast universe of Local cheeses
Thanks to Local cheeses, the Quebec Milk Producers facilitate the promotion of more than 1,000 cheeses made in the province. With such a wide variety available to consumers, it can become difficult to navigate.
“There are many categories of cheese; you can quickly get lost there, I have the impression,” says Bénédicte Guitel of the La Suisse Normande cheese dairy. We only have to think of blue cheeses, those with firm, washed rinds or even those with smooth pastes, to name just a few.
“People will finally be able to put into words what they like and what they like less. This will allow them to discover other cheeses that are also within their taste palette,” adds Bénédicte.
Note that La Suisse Normande is officially a finalist at the Lauriers d’Or gala of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the MRC of Montcalm, in the category Agriculture, food production and/or processing. The winners will be revealed on November 16.
