Jakarta: Transmission of monkey pox (Mpox) is relatively small or can still be avoided. Even so, people need to be alert and careful about transmission through skin to skin or droplet.

“Transmission through alternating seats on public transportation is considered small. However, transmission needs to be anticipated droplet in crowded places,” explained Skin and Venereology Specialist (SpKK) Dr. Dr. I Gusti Nyoman Darmaputra when contacted, Saturday, November 4 2023.

Droplet is one of the media that is transmitted when an infected person coughs/sneezes. So there is fluid moving.

Temporary skin to skin Generally not contagious, unless fluids are transferred from an infected person. So if someone shakes hands without any fluid or injury, then it is generally safe.

“More importantly, there must be contact with the sufferer’s body fluids or wounds,” he said.

The mechanism of transmission between humans can occur due to several things, such as: skin to skin, droplets, kissing, sexual intercourse, to oral sex. Meanwhile, Chair of the PB IDI Monkey Pox Task Force Dr Hanny Nilasari explained that the incubation period for Mpox lasts around 1-21 days.

The general symptoms of Mpox include rashes, skin lesions, fever, headache and throat, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes. “For some people, the first symptom of mpox is a rash or skin lesions, while others may have different symptoms at first,” said Hanny.

Skin lesions appear as fluid-filled sores that can be itchy or painful. Skin lesions can develop all over the body, such as the palms and soles of the feet, face, mouth, genital area, and anus. (M. Iqbal Al Machmudi)
