The Ministry of Health explained that it is preparing trained human cadres to assume the tasks of health control of imported food in all Bahrain ports through the Port Food Control Unit.
In her response to the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Food Security about its role in monitoring and maintaining the safety of imported food products, she added that the unit inspects food shipments coming into the Kingdom and ensures their safety, whether they comply with the required health requirements and Gulf specifications approved as national technical regulations, and withdraws samples from them and ensures Its safety for human consumption before allowing it to be traded in local markets.
The Ministry continued, “In the year 2022, the Imported Food Safety Group conducted a number of inspection visits to incoming food shipments, with a number of (58,767) visits, and more than (17) thousand food samples were withdrawn for laboratory analysis, including (13,654) healthy food samples, and ( 3731) unsound food samples, and more than (955) thousand tons of food suitable for consumption were allowed to enter, and more than (254) thousand tons of food unfit for human consumption were refused entry.”
