American Middle East Disengagement: Hezbollah Leader Blames United States for Hamas-Israel War

At a time when American Secretary of State Antony Blinken is visiting Israel and Jordan, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is provocative: the United States is, in his eyes, “entirely responsible” for the war between Hamas and Israel. The Lebanese Shiite leader has a very selective reading of the respective responsibilities for the tragedy which is shaking the Middle East these days. Arab countries, Europe, the Israeli government, Iran and the Palestinian Authority must all beat their guilt. But it is clear that American disengagement from the Middle East is being paid for in cash today: the murderous war that is raging is coming back like a boomerang in the faces of those responsible.

When he sat in the Oval Office, Donald Trump only validated Benjamin Netanyahu’s suicidal policy by moving the United States embassy to Jerusalem without the slightest international consultation and by in no way seeking to put a stop to colonization. By encouraging Israel to conclude the Abraham Accords with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco, he wanted to make people believe that an entire region could be stabilized without being interested in the Palestinian question.
