[Tilu News]Hong Kong Baptist University held a “Cheer for HKBU Asian Games Athletes” celebration today (3rd) to celebrate the achievements of student athletes and alumni who competed in the Hangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games. Among them, He Wanqi, an alumnus of the Asian Para Games Boccia BC3 mixed doubles silver medal, shared her feelings about the competition and the process of planning next year’s wedding during the competition. What it feels like to win the award, as well as what I learned while studying at HKBU.
He Wanqi
Ho Wan-chi, who graduated from the Department of Chinese Studies and Social Sciences at HKBU in 2018, expressed her gratitude to the team at HKBU and the Sports Institute for their help, including the teachers who often discuss academic issues after class: “I also won an award in the last Asian Games, and I am very happy to do so this time. Winning a medal. This medal represents the recognition of my partner and me, and also proves the efforts of the people behind it. Thanks to the Sports Institute and the Sports Association for the Disabled for taking care of us during the competition, and thank you to everyone who helped the disabled athletes. People, many assistants are not full-time, they still accompany us to train after work, they really pay a lot. In addition, the school has many barrier-free facilities, which is a good choice for disabled athletes. I take care of both major and minor subjects, and often supervise I want to graduate on time. I am grateful to the teachers at HKBU for their help and for taking the extra time to discuss the problems I encountered while studying.”
He Wanqi, Li Rongjie
She has had a lot of happy events recently. In addition to winning the “Top Ten Outstanding Youth” last month, she also announced on Monday (1st) that she will marry her assistant and coach boyfriend Li Rongjie on January 6 next year. She laughed and said that the two often had disagreements during the preparations for the Asian Para Games, and she was not afraid that their new identities would affect their cooperation. Ho Wan-chi will play again in the Asian Boccia Championships in Hong Kong in December, and shared her feelings in preparing for the tournament and wedding in the past two years: “I have planned to get married in the past one or two years, but I have been busy with competitions recently. , there is no time to announce. We are participating in the competition and preparing for the wedding at the same time. We have been keeping a low profile and only my family knows. When preparing for the Asian Paralympic Games, I have to focus on the competition and not think too much about getting married. Now that the Asian Paralympic Games is over, I feel It’s time to share this joy with everyone. Now we have more time to prepare, and the progress is still ‘working hard’.”
Zhang Jialang (middle)
Men’s foil representative Zhang Jialang, who won 1 gold and 1 bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games, entered the first year of HKBU’s Sports and Recreation Management through the Talented Athletes Admission Scheme last year. The Men’s Flower Port team will leave Hong Kong next Monday (6th) to welcome the World Cup in Turkey, which will start next Friday (10th), as the first international competition of the new season, and continue to compete for points in the Paris Olympics. Therefore, Jialang does not have much time to take care of his studies in the new school year, and tries to only take one subject in each semester. “I feel that there is no pressure to study at this moment, because it is interesting to me, and I want to know many things. Especially if it may help me compete or learn about injuries.” He hopes to allocate more time to his studies after the Paris Olympics, and is grateful to HKBU for providing him with various study supports when he competes abroad, including arranging classes. Video recording and additional make-up lessons.
The men’s Huagang team, currently ranked 6th in the world, needs to break into the top 4 in the world before April 1 next year, or become the first in Asia outside the top 4 in the world to qualify for the Olympic team competition. Two weeks ago, the Hong Kong team also invited the world’s “biggest brother” Japan team and the fourth-ranked French team to come to Hong Kong for joint training to lay a solid foundation for the new season. Jialang said that with the experience from 4 years ago, the team members are very clear about the next goals and will make adjustments during the game. “Our team has been working together for several years, and the tacit understanding is relatively good. As long as It’s enough for everyone to perform well, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself because of Olympic points.”
Huang Xiaoying
As for the balance beam female athlete Huang Xiaoying (Angel), who competed in the Asian Games again after 9 years, although she was sadly eliminated in the qualifying round, she felt that she could still set foot on the Asian Games stage. She revealed that she has been working as an athlete and as an assistant coach for the Hong Kong team in the past two years, and currently hopes to continue her career in this mode. “There is still a lot of reluctance when it comes to athletes. Although it is hard to develop in both directions, there are gains in teaching. I hope to develop in this model in the future. Although my goal is not to win medals in competitions, I still want to see how far I can go.” Angel also said that if she can train future successors, she will be more assured of handing over the baton after retirement. Therefore, she hopes to guide more young players in the future. “A Chong (Wu Qiao Chong) has retired, so I need to work harder at this moment. If there is no next generation to take over, it will not be a good phenomenon for the entire sport.”
