It’s so fetch! ‘Mean Girls’ cast reunites in “mini sequel” for Walmart commercial

American actress Lindsey Lohan reunited with her colleagues, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, in their iconic roles from the cult film Mean Girls (Mean Girlsin Latin America) almost 20 years after its premiere, all for a commercial for the Walmart supermarket chain.

In a two-minute video, the three actresses returned as Cady Heron, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners, respectively, the three friends better known as ‘the plastic ones’, in a fragment that shows what has become of the lives of the three characters.

The fun performance was to promote the store’s Black Friday sales, which this year will begin on Wednesday, for which they alluded to one of the best-known lines from the film: “On Wednesdays we wear pink.”

“From Girl World to Deal World, Wednesdays are the time… and (obviously) we’ll be the ones wearing pink. #BlackFridayDeals will drop next week,” Walmart published on its social networks, along with a video with members of the original cast of the movie ‘Mean Girls’.

The mini-movie is a version of Mean Girls in which Lohan, Seyfried and Chabert are no longer teenagers, but are shown as adults and professionals, although still connected to the new queens of North Shore High School.

In this version, Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert) is already the mother of three children, including a teenager, who is now one of the popular plastic girls at school.

Something that has fascinated the public is the fidelity that the commercial maintained with the original work, giving continuity to certain details shown in the film, and referencing the most iconic moments of it.

In that sense, Gretchen’s children are half Asian, since this is the group that the young woman joins at the end of the story, while Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried), becomes a real reporter, and continues with her peculiar way to give the news. She also took care of all the locations.

Finally, Lohan plays the role of a school counselor who remembers her high school experiences when seeing the new trio of girls who rule the school.

The video contains fun references, like the scene where everyone is talking about Regina George in the hallway, but now talking about Walmart’s Black Friday. There is also the new version of Jingle Bell Rockthe choreography they perform in the talent contest, which they take advantage of to promote electronics.

In the background of the entire video you can hear the voice of Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) recounting this new experience, just as in the original tape.

“On the North Shore some things never change on Wednesdays, we still wear pink,” she mentions.

Among cameos, other actors in the cast also appear, Daniel Franzese and Rajiv Surendra, remembered for their roles as Damian and Kevin Gnapoor, respectively.

Although the commercial has been received with joy by fans of the famous film, what many regret is the absence of Rachel McAdams, the one and only Regina George, one of the most iconic characters in pop culture. Nor does Lizzy Caplan, who played Janis Ian, Cady’s best friend, appear in the commercial.

In interview for PeopleLohan, who became a mother this year and is back in the industry with new film projects, was very happy to be able to revive one of her most iconic roles in this 2004 film.

“It was very nice to be together again after all these years. It was great to catch up with everyone,” she commented.
