Popeyes Opens First Restaurant in Prague, Czech Republic
Prague, Czech Republic – Popeyes, the popular American fast-food chain known for its delicious fried chicken, has opened its first restaurant in Prague. The grand opening ceremony took place at 10 am, with Popeyes CEO Marko Blaževič and his team cutting the ceremonial ribbon to welcome the first fans of their famous chicken. The event was accompanied by a live band playing saxophones and guitars, creating a festive atmosphere.
Even before the official opening time, a group of eager customers had gathered outside the restaurant since 7 am. Despite the rain, around twenty people patiently waited for the doors to open. Some dedicated fans had even arrived a day earlier on Thursday morning. “We came around 8 am, so we’ve been here for over twenty hours,” said Šimon, one of the first customers. It is worth noting that the Popeyes branch is located right next to its competitor, KFC, which opens at the same time.
Four friends, Marek, Šimon, Steanly, and Václav, were among the first customers and decided to divide the year-long Popeyes menu among themselves. “We came as three friends, but Václav was already here, so we agreed to share the food,” explained Steanly, adding that they enjoy participating in such events. “We often take part in these kinds of activities. We were at the Million Tornado event in Europark, and we missed out on Kazma’s millions at the cinema six times,” said Steanly, a student.
The dedication of these four friends impressed Popeyes CEO Marko Blaževič. “They really surprised me and broke the waiting record. In Warsaw, the previous record for waiting was 19 hours during the opening of the first Popeyes branch in Poland. However, these guys have been waiting for over 25 hours now, which is unbelievable,” said Blaževič.
Marek, Šimon, Steanly, and Václav successfully secured their chance to enjoy free food for a whole year. Additionally, the legendary Chicken Sandwich will be given to the next hundred customers.
According to the customers, the Popeyes staff took good care of them during the long wait. “We have to mention that they are taking good care of us. We were given coffee, blankets, and we have a place to sit,” described Steanly, pointing to the facilities near the entrance.
The Popeyes restaurant in Prague is located in the Fashion House building in the upper part of Wenceslas Square. It spans two floors, covering nearly 700 square meters of floor space and offering over a hundred seating places.
The first floor features several tables, beverage dispensers for unlimited refills, self-ordering kiosks with a pick-up counter and kitchen. The second floor has additional tables and toilets with access codes. “We took a slightly different approach than others who use turnstiles to secure their toilets. We opted for a code system, so each customer will receive an access code on their receipt,” revealed Popeyes CEO Marko Blaževič.
