The Tottenham coach, Ange Postecoglou, asked the team’s fans to receive with “respect” the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, former coach of the ‘Spurs’ and currently in charge of Chelsea, on Monday in the derby between both teams in the Premier League .
It will be the first time that Pochettino returns to the Tottenham stadium since leaving that team in 2019.
Pochettino, now 51 years old, had five successful years with Tottenham, leading them to their first Champions League final, which they lost in 2019 against Liverpool.
“There is no doubt that he has had an incredible impact on this football club,” Postecoglou said of Pochettino on Thursday.
“He took the club almost to the top of the Champions League, he was close to doing it in the league. His work is unquestionable. With everyone I talk to here, among the people who worked with him, they can’t tell me better things about him as a person and as a coach,” he noted.
For this reason, he requested that there be “respect” in the reception of Pochettino.
“I respect Mauricio from everyone in this football club, but that does not mean that we are going to give him a hall of honor on Monday because we want to win the game,” he said.
Pochettino managed Paris Saint-Germain after his time at Tottenham. At the beginning of the current season, a return of the Argentine to the club was rumored, but finally the ‘Spurs’ opted to sign the Australian Postecoglou due to his good performance at the head of the Scottish Celtic.
