From December 12, you will pay 4.99 euros per month for the Amazon Prime subscription. The service now costs 2.99 euros per month. Prime provides access to a streaming video service and free delivery of Amazon orders, among other things.
To alleviate the pain of the large price increase, Amazon is introducing an annual subscription for Prime. That subscription costs 49.99 euros. Compared to the monthly subscription, you get a discount of two months. But even with the annual subscription it is almost 40 percent more expensive than now.
The price increase takes effect on December 12. You will pay the new price as soon as your subscription is renewed after that date.
“We are raising the price so that we can continue to invest in making Amazon Prime even more valuable for our members,” the company said in a response to NU.nl.
Amazon isn’t the only streaming video service raising its prices. Netflix introduced a price increase last year, making subscriptions 1 to 2 euros more expensive. Disney+ has already increased its prices twice this year in increments of 1 euro.
