The snow that caused massive traffic chaos in Eastern Norway on Monday consisted of 5 to 20 centimeters of snow.
It is almost exactly the same for parts of Eastern Norway and Southern Norway on Thursday:
“From night to Thursday, 5 to 15 cm of snow is expected. Locally, there may be more. Close to the coast, a transition to sleet and rain is expected. Freezing rain may occur,” writes the Meteorological Institute in its hazard warning for the area.
– I hope more people are better prepared, but there will probably be some problems in traffic, says state meteorologist Eldbjørg Moxnes to Dagbladet.
On Thursday morning, traffic operator Arvid Wahlstrøm at Vegtrafikksentralen East says that for the time being the morning traffic is going well.

– It is snowing lightly, including around the capital, but traffic is going as normal, with heavy traffic from the north, south, and from Drammen towards Oslo, he says.
Meanwhile, Wahlstrøm asks people to be prepared for variable roads, with both snow, slush, bare tracks and pure snow cover.
– On the smaller roads there can also be sections that are slippery, he warns and adds:
– It is very important that road users keep their heads with them and drive according to the conditions. And winter tires are an absolute requirement.
At 07.37 the Sør-Öst police district responded to a traffic accident in Holmestrand, involving two cars and five people.
– The accident happened in the 70-speed zone and the cars collided head-on. It is very slippery on the spot, the police write on X/Twitter.
It appears serious and a rescue helicopter is on its way to the scene, the police write further.

More danger alerts
Both the National Roads Administration and the Meteorological Institute went out on Wednesday and warned road users in Eastern Norway about demanding weather conditions on Thursday morning.
Meteorological Institute has sent out a number of danger warnings.
There may be up to 100 millimeters of rainfall in parts of Agder, and there is a risk of floods and landslides in parts of southern and eastern Norway.
Just before 06:00 on Thursday, however, the Agder police district writes on X, formerly Twitter, that so far no traffic problems have been reported due to the weather.

A danger warning of heavy snow has also been issued in parts of Eastern Norway and Southern Norway.

Here, the ice can be difficult to see, and the meteorologists recommend, among other things, spikes (and a tire change, if you haven’t already done so).
“From early Thursday morning there is a local risk of ice due to rain freezing on cold ground and freezing rain, first in the south. The danger decreases further south in the morning,” the meteorologists write.
On Friday, there may be between 25 and 40 centimeters of snow in the inner regions of Eastern Norway. The snow line is expected to be between 400 and 600 meters in the middle of the day.

Evacuated children
On Monday, the Red Cross had to respond to traffic chaos on motorways in Eastern Norway.
On the E18 near Ørje in Østfold, a long line of wagon trains with summer tires broke down. Due to the snowy weather, it was difficult to get heavy lifters in place. The result was a queue several kilometers long that stood still for many hours.
The Red Cross and Norwegian People’s Aid rushed to the scene to supply motorists with water and wool blankets.
The danger warnings are hailing
On the E18 south of Telemarksporten, the police had to fight their way through the stationary queue to evacuate two children, one of whom is said to have been a newborn.
Motorists had then been queuing for many hours, and later in the evening the Red Cross also moved out to the motorway to be on standby.
