No. 5 Duke 3, No. 12 Boston College 2
The Blue Devils (11-3-2) built a three-goal advantage before holding off a late charge from BC (3-9-5) in Durham, North Carolina. Antino Lopez, Ulfur Bjornsson and Ruben Mesalles scored for the Blue Devils, with Mesalles’ tally giving Duke a 3-0 advantage in the 63rd minute. That lead seemed safe until the Eagles fought back with a pair of goals just 70 seconds apart from Daniel Klaric in the 80th minute and Christian Bejar in the 81st minute. The Blue Devils’ defense regrouped from there and surrendered just one shot the rest of the way.
No. 6 Syracuse 5, No. 11 NC State 0
The reigning ACC and NCAA champions opened postseason play with a resounding win in Syracuse, New York, scoring a season high in goals in the process. Daniel Diaz Bonilla scored a pair of goals as the Orange (8-3-6) rolled to the win. NC State ended its season with a 6-9-3 record.
No. 7 North Carolina 4, No. 10 Virginia Tech 1
After conceding a goal just 1:44 into the match, North Carolina (8-3-5) responded with four unanswered goals in a 4-1 victory over Virginia Tech (4-9-4) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Ernest Bawa recorded a brace for the Tar Heels, including the eventual game-winning goal in the 44th minute. Misei Yoshizawa scored the Hokies’ goal in the second minute.
No. 9 Louisville 2, No. 8 Pitt 1 (2OT)
Louisville was the lone road team to prevail Wednesday, ousting Pitt in an intense, double-overtime thriller in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After 103 scoreless minutes, the teams staged a wild second period of extra time with three goals in just over two minutes, with Louisville (10-4-3) tallying the first two and Pitt countering with a goal of its own. The Cardinals’ Mason Tatafu broke the stalemate in the 104th minute, and teammate Damien Barker John doubled the lead just 50 seconds later on a strike from midfield. Twenty-nine seconds later, Pitt’s Joao Souza got the Panthers (6-6-4) on the board.
