NEW YORK –Since the Halloween season is over, the Christmas season is here and therefore it is time to choose the great Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
Real estate giant Tishman Speyer announced Wednesday that the 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will come from Vestal, New York. The tree joining what is now NBC’s annual tradition is an 80-year-old Norway spruce that measures 80 feet tall and 43 feet wide, according to Rockefeller Center. The 12-tonne tree will arrive in the city later this month ahead of the lighting.
When will the Rockefeller Christmas tree arrive?
The 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be cut down in Vestal on Thursday, November 9, before traveling approximately 200 miles to Manhattan. It will arrive at the plaza on Saturday, November 11 and will be hoisted into place.
The tree’s arrival is expected to be a spectacle as always, and there will be fun, family-friendly activities for holiday lovers to enjoy in the Plaza Sur from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to organizers. The Rock and Roll Playhouse will feature Christmas classics for children and there will also be story time with independent bookstore McNally Jackson.
Little ones will also have the opportunity to write letters to Santa, decorate their own ornaments and even paint their faces.
The festivities are free to the public, but those who RSVP in advance will receive a gift upon check-in. Click here for more details.
How will the tree be decorated?
After arriving at Center Plaza, more than 50,000 multicolored LEDs will be placed along approximately 5 miles of wire to adorn the 2023 tree. It will then be topped with a 9-foot, 900-pound Swarovski star covered in 3 million crystals.
When does the tree light up?
The tree lighting show will begin at 7 pm ET on Wednesday, November 29. You’ll be able to watch “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” on our sister network NBC in a live television broadcast, on Peacock and wherever NBC 4 New York broadcasts.
This year’s show will be hosted by Kelly Clarkson. She is an Emmy and Grammy winner who will also do double duty as a performer. She was first introduced in the special 20 years ago!
