Record-breaking November temperatures in Moscow

Moscow, November 1, 2017 – Moscow recorded the first day of November as the warmest day since 1877, with a temperature reaching 13 degrees Celsius.

Roman Velvand, scientific director of the Russian Meteorological Center, said that the temperature in Moscow and its suburbs reached 13 degrees Celsius this afternoon, while the temperature at 7 a.m. reached 10 degrees Celsius.

He attributed this exceptional rise in temperatures to the arrival of warm air masses from Africa, with Moscow residents today witnessing what could be called “Egyptian weather.”

The previous record was set in the Russian capital on the first day of November 1934, when the thermometer showed 12.6 degrees Celsius above zero.
