A new season starts – thoughts are circling. Which player will be signed next? A top star, a talent or an actor who is under the radar? Questions that the virtual managers in Football Manager 2024 have been able to ask themselves for around two weeks. Because “the last FM of its kind” is already available in early access on the PC. Sports Interactive has now published a ranking of which players were signed most frequently in the first week after the starting signal.

The focus is on development

The list of the top 10 starts straight away with surprising names. On the one hand Martin Baturina from Dinamo Zagreb and Yaser Asprilla from Watford FC. Both have promising futures in Football Manager, with Asprilla standing out in this aspect. The 19-year-old has greater potential and is therefore well suited to raising a long-term project. What is particularly impressive about Baturina is the price-performance ratio. The Croatian impresses in the game with his strong passing and dribbling and – as mentioned – still has potential for improvement.

Significantly more is needed Ousmane Diomande be planned. For the central defender from Sporting Lisbon, almost 50 million euros are due in FM24. A high price, but definitely justified. The Ivorian combines perspective with existing quality. Strong, fast and very good at tackling. He is also suitable as a builder as he has high values in both overview and passing.

Top scorer as the first top star

Speaking of high values: the first top star in the rankings also has them – Victor Osimhen. With 26 goals from 32 games in Serie A, the striker played a major role in SSC Napoli’s championship. And this season too, the 24-year-old is showing his best side on the pitch: he has scored six goals after eight games so far. Last season’s top scorer also has everything he needs in Football Manager to score a lot of goals – especially in his favorite discipline: headers. However, it might take some time before you can sign up. Naples is logically only willing to agree to a generous offer. Possibly a reason why Osimhen “only” ends up in seventh place.

Lands one place in front of it Patrick Dorgu from US Lecce. The Dane is one of the up-and-coming players in FM24, which also underlines the interest from big clubs at the start of a season. If you want to buy the left-back, you should be quick.

Still without success at Schalke – arrived at Nice

A well-known name from the Bundesliga made it into the top 5: Jean-Clair Todibo. In 2020/2021, FC Schalke 04 loaned the Frenchman from FC Barcelona, but the talent’s interlude with the Knappen was not successful. Just like Benfica Lisbon. Only in Nice did Todibo develop according to forecasts and is now a top performer there. Like Diomande, Todibo combines pre-existing class with perspective. The price of Todibo’s transfer is around 55 million euros.

One of the most talented players in Football Manager for years Roony Bardghji. The Swede has rapid pace and can therefore create a lot of problems for the defenders. However, patience is required for the 17-year-old, because a commitment is more of a long-term project that doesn’t necessarily achieve immediate results.

Let’s get to the podium on which Anthony Silva stands. The central defender from Benfica Lisbon should also be known to FIFA 23 players, as the Portuguese was one of the biggest talents there. In Football Manager 24, Silva is already one of the elite in his core area, but can also improve even further. It’s hardly surprising that Real Madrid are interested in the 20-year-old after the start of the game.

In second place is an “old friend” in Football Manager. Because it has been in recent years Wilfried Gnonto a promising player in football simulation. Nothing has changed in 2024, just the availability of the Italian. For just under 20 million euros you get a fast and technically adept wing player with a lot of potential for improvement – a snapper.

Surprising name on the number one – right?

What is rather surprising at first glance is the most-bought player in Football Manager 2024 so far. Valentin Barco, left-back, but can also be used in midfield. A closer look under the hood reveals what makes the 19-year-old so special. Hardly any other player has such a promising future as the Argentine. So if you place particular value on long-term player development and want to build a team from different so-called prodigies, Barco is almost a must. He is due around 30 million euros.

Will he continue to top the list in the future? Football Manager will be released worldwide on November 6th – not only on PC, but also on consoles and other platforms. What is generally interesting, however, is the comparison between the transfers in the career mode of EA SPORTS FC 24 and those in FM24. There are significantly more stars in the rankings compiled by EA SPORTS. More gems in Football Manager.
