FC Porto’s Communications Director Calls Out Manipulated Broadcasts of Benfica Games

FC Porto’s communications director speaks in silence, complicit with the entities responsible

Francisco J. Marques once again pointed the finger at the broadcasts of Benfica’s home games in the Betclic League on BTV, in this case in the wake of the last game played at the Estádio da Luz, the reception to Casa Pia (1-1). Regarding the Reds’ goal in that game, scored by João Mário, FC Porto’s communications director regretted the television channel’s repetitions of the play. “For years, broadcasts of Benfica games have been manipulated to convey a false idea. I don’t care if the goal was legal or not, what interests me is what has been repeated for years. This goal is an example of that”, he stated, detailing: “The play begins with a possible foul [n.d.r.: de Antóniol Silva] and no repeat of BTV was enlightening, this is manipulating the broadcast. This happens in all broadcasts of Benfica’s home games. And what are they doing in Portugal, in the FPF, in the League, to prevent this? (…) What do the televisions, so quick to report the slightest blink of an eye from our coach, do? A complicit silence.”

Regarding the issue, Francisco J. Marques said: “This manipulation is tiring, but more is subservience to Benfica. No one except FC Porto has the courage to report this. These broadcasts are false. They use manipulation to induce viewers and pretend nothing happens.” By Record
